Columbiana- Bernice Marie Foester, age 88, of Columbiana and formerly of East Liverpool, went to the place prepared for her by our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 9, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley, Beaver, PA.
She was born on April 1, 1927 in Beaver Falls, PA, the daughter of the late Randall Bedford and Gertrude Lummas Webb.
Bernice was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School, class of 1945, and was a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. After working for the mayor in East Liverpool and for the Chambers Clothing Store, she made a career in banking. She started as a teller for the Farmers Bank in Beaver Falls and Potters Savings and Loan in East Liverpool and retired as the branch manager of the Potters Savings and Loan in Calcutta in 1989. After her retirement, she was asked to come back and help with the transition of Potters Savings and Loan to Home Savings.
Bernice was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana. She was a member of the Coterie Club and several other clubs in East Liverpool. She was troop leader for the Girl Scouts who met at the former Orchard Grove United Methodist Church in East Liverpool. Bernie enjoyed horseback riding, swimming, traveling, reading and history. Mostly, she loved entertaining family and friends.
Her husband, George A. Foester, Jr., whom she married on June 7, 1946, preceded her in death on January 15, 2003.
She gave love, light and laughter to numerous nieces and nephews whom responded in loving affection and respect. She also leaves behind a cousin, Rosemary Nelson of Cumbria, England.
Bernice was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Randall (Margaret) Webb.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 15, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and again from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana with Pastors Fritz Nelson, Paul Anderson and John Foester officiating.
Burial will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery, Wellsville, OH.
Donations may be made on Bernice’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana, 28 E. Park Ave., Columbiana, OH 44408.
