Boardman, February 23, 2004, Bernice H. Blackwood, age 91, of Boardman, formerly of Leetonia, died Monday afternoon at her home following a long illness.
Mrs. Blackwood was born May 8, 1912 in Lisbon, a daughter of Frederick and Edna Endley Pannier and had lived in the Youngstown area since 1970, coming from Leetonia.
She was a homemaker and along with her late husband, owned and operated the former Blackwood's News in Leetonia for 36 years, retiring in 1982.
She had attended Kent State University and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Youngstown. She was also a member of the Columbiana Chapter #428 Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, James L. Blackwood, whom she married June 6, 1936 died September 24, 1982.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Kay Blackwood King and Wayne F. King of Boardman; a daughter in law, Judy Blackwood of Leetonia; five grandchildren, David King, Thomas King, Scott Blackwood, Chris Blackwood, and Lori Rusyn; and nine great grandchildren.
A son, Thomas J. Blackwood and a brother, Frederick Pannier is also deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Reverend Vickie Yoder, Chaplain of Hospice of the Valley officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday.
