Leetonia, OH-September 18, 2004-Bernard L. "Barney" Straub, age 85, of 622 Columbia Street died at 2:20 a.m. Saturday at Louis Stokes VA Medical Center Wade Park Division, Cleveland.
Mr. Straub was born April 4, 1919 in Beaver Falls, PA, a son of Bernard G. and Carolina A. Endres Straub and had lived in Leetonia since 1936 coming from Beaver Falls, PA.
He owned and operated Barney's Auto Service in Leetonia for 50 years retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Leetonia, a 50 year member of the Salem Elks and also the York Drexler Post #5532 VFW, Washingtonville. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Leetonia. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during Korea.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Dutko of Salem; five nieces, three nephews, one great niece and three great nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clementine "Connie" Dayton and Caroline Straub and a brother, Joseph Straub.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2004 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Leetonia with the Reverend Edward Brienz officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
