Columbiana- Arthur “Art” R. Dillon, age 85, of Columbiana, died on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Salem Regional Medical Center.
He was born on February 7, 1929, in Batavia, NY, the son of the late Hazel Durham and Ralston V. Dillon.
Art was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana and was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. during the Korean War. He graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Forestry and had worked as a consultant for Heath Consultants for 42 years. After his retirement, Art helped establish Dillon Fruit Farm with his son Jim in 1977. He was a member of the Syracuse Alumni Association and enjoyed farming, working in the woods and growing roses. Art also enjoyed the time he spent with his wife Ruth wintering in Florida and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Oyer Dillon, whom he married on May 24, 1952 and by his son James “Jim” (Karen) Dillon of Lisbon.
Art was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Dillon.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, from 10:00am – 11:00am at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Fritz Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in the Columbiana Cemetery.
