Alice Jean Sponsel

Rogers, OH-March 4, 2006-Alice Jean Sponsel, age 70, of 7033 Scott Mill Road died at 8:55 p.m. Saturday in Salem Community Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Sponsel was born January 29, 1936 in Darlington, PA, a daughter of Henry and Stella Harper Sienerth and had lived in this area all of her life.

She was the owner operator of Millrock Auto Sales for 40 years, a member of Union Ridge Bible Baptist Church, Negley and a member of Clipper Aerie #2415 Fraternal Order of Eagles in New Waterford.

Her husband, William Sponsel, whom she married February 5, 1963 died May 31, 1988.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Daren (Stella "Cathy") Gamble of East Palestine, Mrs. Dana (Cindy) McDevitt of New Waterford, Mrs. Dan (Beverly) Rosich of Mansfield and Ms. Oda Sponsel of Chippewa, PA; a sister, Norma Ehrenberg of Chippewa, PA; a brother, Charles (Dorothy) Sienerth of Columbiana; her companion, Alex Fraser of Rogers and his children Aaron, Craig and Mandy Fraser; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and her faithful dog Sadie Sue.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Rae Berresford and three sons, William Lee Sponsel, Artie Berresford and William H. Sponsel II .

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor Randy Clark of the Union Ridge Bible Baptist Church and Reverend Joanne Dota of Hospice of the Valley officiating. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
