Columbiana - October 2, 2007 - Alfred Anthony Yannerella, Sr., 90, of Columbiana, died at 6:19 p.m. Tuesday at the Woodlands at Hampton Woods in Poland.

Mr. Yannerella was born July 19, 1917 in Youngstown, a son of the late Joseph and Philomena Marino Yannerella and had lived in Columbiana the past five years, coming from Austintown. He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. He had been employed as a Union Representative at General Fireproofing Company in Youngstown for 38 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Arco Club, Italian American War Veterans Post #3 and made his Cursillo in 1971. He was a union representative for the United Steel Workers Local 1617, where he had held every office. He had helped to organize unions in the 1930's and also helped to organize the Young Democrats in Youngstown.

His wife, the former Virginia "Jean" Pagley, whom he married February 4, 1939 died March 7, 2003.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Phyllis "Patty") Ianazone of Columbiana and Mrs. Jim (Gloria) Socciarelli of Columbiana, with whom he had made his home; two sons, Alfred (Elaine Blythe) Yannerella, Jr. of Kent and Joe (Lynn) Yannerella of Parma; a brother, James (Wanda) Yannerella of Warren; 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Two sisters, Lena Larango and Rose Turney and three brothers, Anthony Yannerella, Patsy Yannerella, and Dominic Yannerella are also deceased.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Reverend Thomas Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana from 5 -8 p.m. on Thursday where a Cursillo Bible Vigil will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
