Marjorie Jean Barber, age 89, of Park Court, Columbiana, passed away on October 22, 2005.

Mrs. Barber was born in Coshocton, Ohio, daughter of Daniel and Nellie Tish Hudson. She graduated from Coshocton High School in 1934 and the Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio in 1938.

She was married to Dr. Russell A. Barber, in 1940, and the couple moved to Columbiana where he opened a veterinary medicine practice.

After the death of her husband in 1966, she worked as a nurse for Salem City Hospital and three Youngstown area hospitals before returning to private duty nursing.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana where she led youth fellowship groups for ten years. She served for ten years as the chair of the Citizens for Better Schools. She was an avid reader and long-time member of the Reader's Guild, Garden Club, Towasi Sunday School Class, Bridge Club, Columbiana Women's Club, and the Retired Nurses Association.

She leaves one daughter, Elizabeth (Tom) Lennehan of Lee, Florida; a son, Dr. Albert (Debbie) Barber of Stow, Ohio; a brother, Elden Hudson of Zanesville, Ohio; three grandchildren: Heath Hampton of Lizella, GA; Emily Capece of Cranford, NJ; and John Barber of Konstanz, Germany; three great grandchildren; and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, three sisters: Wilma Hudson, Thelma Cookes, and Ruth Hudson, and four bothers: William Hudson, Glenn Hudson, Harold Hudson, and Forrest Hudson.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana. Services will held at 11:00AM with the Rev. Dr. Robert McCreight officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbiana Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbiana Women's Club or the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana.
