East Palestine, OH-September 17, 2010-George I. Rupert, 77, of East Palestine died at 6:18 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Boardman Campus after becoming ill at the Crestview-Springfield football game Friday evening.
Mr. Rupert was born January 4, 1933 in New Waterford, a son of Harry and Grace Woods Rupert and had lived in this area all of his life.
George was a mechanic for 26 years for Valley Industrial Trucking in Youngstown and had also worked for several years as the produce manager for the former McCurdy Giant Eagle in East Palestine. He was a member of the New Waterford United Methodist Church and East Palestine Lodge #417 F&AM.
He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy M. Maple, whom he married May 10, 1953; three daughters, Linda (Fred) Lower of New Waterford, Shannon Havice of Utica and Mona Rupert of East Palestine; a son, Brent (Rebecca) Rupert of Columbiana; two sisters, Janice (Lester) Seidner of Salem and Florence (Don) Ray of New Waterford; eight grandchildren, Neely Lower, Shanna Lower, Briann Booth, Angela Rupert, Amanda Whitacre, Andrea Rupert, Lanuel Havice and Lindsay McCurdy; and two great grandchildren, Ariana Rodi and Audrey Booth.
George was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Schrum and a grandson, Brenton "Buddy" McCurdy.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the New Waterford United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Friends will be received following the service.
