Van A. Mills Jr.

Columbiana- Van A. Mills Jr., age 88, of Columbiana, entered into his rest on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Hospice House of Poland.

He was born on February 13, 1930 in Hanoverton, OH., the son of the late Van Allan Mills Sr. and the late Thelma Morris Mills DeBray.

Van was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean War and he was a proud member of the Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion, Columbiana.  He was extremely active with the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana where he served many different roles, including church elder.  Van had several hobbies including jigsaw puzzles, gardening and remodeling homes.  He will best be remembered as a man who lived by the motto, “God, Country and Family”.

His wife, Kathryn Jean Snay Mills, whom he married on February 2, 1950, preceded him in death on March 12, 2005.

He is survived by a daughter, Chryal (Earnest) Nichols of Omaha, NE; four sons, David (Annette) Mills of Canton, James (Cindy) Mills of Charlotte, NC., Van “Chuck” Mills of Newark, OH., and Michael Mills of Zanesville, OH; his special friend, Melba Fry of Columbiana; sister, Dora Mae Clapsaddle of Salem, and a daughter in-law, Julie Mills of Gilbert, AZ.  Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Van was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Mills; two sisters, Patsy Temple and Mary Lou Patterson; his parents, Van Allan Mills Sr., Thelma DeBray and step father, James DeBray.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and again on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana.

Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery, Hanoverton, OH.
