New Waterford- Timothy E. Hancox, age 69, of New Waterford, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital, Boardman, after a courageous five year battle with cancer.
He was born on June 18, 1949 in Youngstown, a son of the late Lawrence and Doris Bjork Hancox.
Tim was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War with his best friend from high school and lifelong friend, Ted Evans. He was a 1967 graduate of East Palestine High School and had owned and operated Tim’s Upholstery for 25 years. He was a member of the APA Pool League and was a longtime member of the New Waterford-Eagles Club Aerie #2415 FOE where he had played Santa Clause for the children for many years. Tim also enjoyed golfing, fishing, attending antique car shows, vacationing in Myrtle Beach and supporting his grandchildren and the Crestview Schools by attending all of their school functions. Most of all, he will be remembered as a man who had a zest for life and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Grim Hancox, whom he married on August 7, 1970; two sons, Scott (Ruthie) Hancox of Delaware, OH and Chris (Jamie) Hancox of East Palestine; and by a sister, Karen Flenner of East Palestine. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Alec, Kendall, Cade and Haven Hancox, Hayden and Hannah Long and Hayleigh DeGood.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Hancox.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Pancake officiating.
