Washingtonville-Roy E. Painter, 69, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Painter was born February 14, 1949 in Salem, the son of the late Roy N. and Mary R. McLaughlin Painter.
He had worked as a fitting welder for East Manufacturing in Hermitage, PA and had served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, in the First Calvary Division, receiving the Bronze Star, Air and Good Conduct Medals. Roy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia. He loved fishing and coin collecting and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
He is survived by his wife, the former, Michele Grunick, whom he married May 28, 1977; a daughter, Jessica (Jeremy) Barns of Cold Spring, KY; a son, Vincent Painter of Newton Falls; three sisters, Maryann Fahnel of Winona, Brenda (Jack) Thompson of Salem and Nancy (Paul) Blunn of Canton; a brother, Michael (Cathy) Painter of Hanoverton; three grandchildren, Alice Grace, lydia Roy and Addison Elizabeth; as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
Military honors will be accorded by the Salem Honor Guard at 10:15 a.m., Monday, August 27, 2018, at the funeral home prior to the Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia, with Reverend Robert Edwards officiating.
Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery, Hanoverton.
