Leetonia - Margaret Mary Greier, 79, of Leetonia, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Salem Regional Medical Center.
She was born January 9, 1939 in Salem, a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret McLaughlin Potts.
Margaret worked as a cook with Leetonia Schools and retired June 6, 2003 after 23 years. She had also worked at G.C. Murphy Co. in downtown Salem and at one time demonstrated the hula hoop in the front window. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia, where she had been very involved, previously serving on church council, with the Altar Guild, helping with the fish dinner during the festival and working in the kitchen during bingo. She was also a member and former officer of LCBA.
Margaret was an avid Cleveland sports fan, she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, going to singing events with her friends, camping at Berlin Lake, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and attending their athletic events.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Greier, whom she married February 10, 1962; two daughters, Mary Ann Greier of Leetonia and Barbara (Rob) Hovorka of Salem; a son, Tony Greier of Leetonia; two granddaughters, Kayla and Morgan Hovorka of Salem; an honorary grandson, Corey Creamer of Leetonia; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Potts, Roberta King and Georgiana “Winky” Kilbreath; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Margaret Clunen, and three brothers, Joe Potts, William “Buddy” Potts and James “Jimmy” Potts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia, with Rev. Robert Edwards officiating.
Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, and from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
The family would like to thank the staff at Crandall Medical Center and Salem Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care of Margaret.
