James E. McLaughlin

East Palestine-James E. McLaughlin, 92, passed away Tuesday morning, December 12, 2017 at Covington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Palestine.

Mr. McLaughlin was born October 19, 1925 in Delmont, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Clinton E. and Edna P. Wolfe McLaughlin and had lived in this area most of his life.

Jim worked in construction and eventually worked as a construction superintendent. He was a member of Negley United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Negley Lodge #565 F&AM. Jim also served in the US Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of the George F. McBane Post #31 American Legion in East Palestine.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sara Jane McCowin, whom he married May 16, 1947; his daughter, Vicky (Gary) Mohr of East Palestine; two grandchildren Allison (Eric) Oltmann and Jared (Whitney) Mohr; seven great grandchildren, Aubrey Oltmann, Paige Oltmann, Harper Oltmann, Isaac Mohr, Caleb Mohr, Piper Mohr and Levi Mohr.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Baughman and Mary Catherine Johnstone and a brother, Robert McLaughlin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor Cindy Figley officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Friday, December 15, 2017 at the funeral home.
