Columbiana December 7, 2007 -Harold W. ‘Army’ Armstrong, age 81, of 307 Blueberry Drive died at 4:00 p.m. Friday in the Woodlands at Hampton Woods in Poland.

He was born December 3, 1926 in Lisbon, son of Carl and Annabelle Lodge Armstrong and had lived in Columbiana since 1952.

Harold had been an Owner-Operator of Ace Hardware of Columbiana for 40 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana, was a Life Member and Past Commander of Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion at Columbiana and a Life Member of York Drexler Post #5532 VFW at Washingtonville, Past President of the former Columbiana Kiwanis Club, Past Director and Past President the Columbiana Chamber of Commerce. He was named ‘Man of the Year’ of the Chamber of Commerce in 2006. He served with in the Army during WW II and served in the Army of Occupation in Korea following Japan’s surrender.

Following his discharge from the Army, attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he received his degree in Business Administration.

Surviving is his wife, Janet Lee Smith Cross Armstrong, whom he married December 9, 1983; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Charity) Barcelona of St. Charles, IL, Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) LaLumia of Boardman, and Mrs. Paul (Beth Ann) Bell of Manassas, VA; a step daughter, Cathy Lee Bernstein of Youngstown; a son, Walter Armstrong of Columbiana; a step son, Dale W. Cross, Jr. of McDonald; a sister, Florence Hanke of Mansfield; and eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbiana Cemetery.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Honor Guard of Benjamin Firestone Post #290 will render military honors.
