East Rochester – Gladys Sanders, 91, of East Rochester, formerly of Washingtonville, died at 12:25 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Great Trail Care Center, Minerva.
Mrs. Sanders was born August 8, 1921 in East Palestine, a daughter of Ray H. and Georganna Peters Saviers. She was a 1939 graduate of New Springfield High School. She was a school crossing guard in Washingtonville for over 20 years.
Gladys was a member the Trinity Lutheran Church, Washingtonville and the Lutheran Church Women. She also attended the Leetonia Nutrition Group and the Boardman YMCA Water Aerobics. She was a wonderful mother who loved her family and was well known for her excellent sewing and quilting, gardening, baking, and most of all, her beautiful smile.
Her husband, Robert E. Sanders, whom she married January 26, 1943 died March 1, 2002.
She is survived by two daughters, Diana (Albert) Pinkerton of East Rochester and Kay Zemanek of Twinsburg; and daughter in law, Janet Sanders of Auburn, AL; four sisters, Donna Fox of Fort Atkinson, WI, Wilma (Charles) Cyrus of East Palestine, Joan Parsons of Gibsonia, PA, and Marilyn (Will) Walker of Stow; two sister in laws, Betty Saviers of Tallmadge and Nancy Saviers of East Palestine; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, James Sanders and Thomas Sanders; three sisters, Marie Cyrus, Dorothy Jenkins, and Jean Roberts; and two brothers, Harold Saviers and Glenn Saviers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with Pastor William Medford officiating. Burial will follow in Washingtonville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday.
